This is the first (and probably last) video of this sort that I watched this election season. The investigator finds all sorts of fault with JB Pritzker’s involvement at 1871. Including… it was partly funded by the state, 1871 pays rent to a firm JB owns, and his venture fund invests in startups affiliated with it. learn more

Nigeria’s great success with a business plan competition. 

“From 2012 to 2015, the Nigerian government gave away $100 million to over 3,000 entrepreneurs, all of them under age 40.” World Bank surveys show it has worked exceptionally to spur new businesses with >10 employees! The new Nigerian President didn’t like that it wasn’t his idea, so he killed the program. But, good news: Kenya and other African countries are trying their own versions. learn more

Cold weather & common colds. 

A few years ago, researchers found a link between cold temperature and decreased cellular immune response. The underlying study is interesting, though maybe not directly related to how we think about cold. They showed that cells have less defensive ability when their temperature is 4 degrees C lower. At the least, it seems applicable to your nasal cavity in environments that have rhinovirus in the air. learn more
